MEET OUR I2WANDERER OF THE WEEK
Every week, we are featuring a member of our travel community. We all have our own reasons to travel and stories to share. Let’s learn more about our very own Inspire To Wanderers. Would you like to be featured? The first step is to join the I2W Travel Community so you can learn more!
MEET SARAH FROM CANADA
Meet Sarah! She’s a traveller currently residing in British Columbia, but she’s lived all over the country. Born in Port Perry, Ontario, Sarah has also lived in Ladysmith, Chemainus, Nanaimo, Victoria, Kelowna, Vancouver, and Montreal. She is inspired to wander because she loves learning about new cultures, and experiences some sort of personal growth with each trip.
Where is your favourite destination in the world and why?
That’s really tough! I don’t know if I could pick a favourite, but I’ve really enjoyed exploring Mexico over the last two years. My boyfriend is from there, so each time we go I have the opportunity to explore it from a local’s point of view. I’ve learned so much about the people, culture, food, and found really special places that I look forward to visiting again.
Where is your next adventure? Tell us all about an upcoming trip!
We are heading to Spain for a couple of weeks this summer. One of my best friends from high school lives in Madrid and he is getting married! While that is the highlight of the trip, I can’t wait to explore a couple of other cities including Salamanca and Barcelona!
On our way home, we’ll be popping by Toronto for about 48 hours to visit some friends and family.
What do you mostly like to see and do when you travel?
I really love exploring different neighbourhoods, museums, and spending a lot of time outdoors. I try to find places that are not as touristy, but more than anything, are representative of the local culture. I’m always down for some time in the water, whether it’s a lake, river, or ocean.
I’m a big believer in travelling responsibly, leaving as small of a footprint as I can, and not visiting places that exploit animals. A good rule of thumb: If you can touch, hold, or ride a wild animal, don’t.
Is there anywhere you wouldn’t visit again, and why?
I probably would never go to Las Vegas again. It doesn’t really align with my interests and I think there are so many other places that I need to see that better suit me.
What is your #1 travel goal that you hope to accomplish in the next year? The next 5 years?
I really hope to make it to the Galapagos Islands, and visit some of the programs I write about in my day job. There are so many amazing organizations and tour operators I’ve had the chance to work with, and I’d love to experience their programs first hand.
In the next 5 years, I’d like to spend more time learning about and visiting Mexico, Central and South America. I’d also like to make a trip to England and connect with my relatives there.
